I started fishing at 5pm on another hot day in coastal Lithuania. The cycle ride to my usual swim on Lake Ekete took the normal 25 minutes and I was anxious to get started, hoping that the continued warm weather together with a variety of different baits would produce some Tench action.

I fished two stick floats, one a heavy rig with size 12 straight through, three dropper shot and two locking shot, fishing around an inch hard bottom and the second, lighter line, again straight through, size 18 hook, 3 dropper shot and two locking shot around an inch off the bottom.

A nice breeze was blowing off the main body, funnelling into the channel which I hoped would congregate the fish in this part of the lake but as a counter to that the water was Gin clear.

I started the heavy rig on worm while selecting single white maggot for the lighter rig, both fished over bread crumb mixed with Roach attractant, hemp, corn, maggot and a chopped meat similar to Spam. I also loose fed hemp and white maggot but as the session progressed, as usual I found that while what ever feeding pattern I adopted with the loose feed had little effect, feeding small balls of ground bait every 15 minutes or so, kept the fish feeding.

It was actually the heavier rig that produced first, a Perch of only an ounce or two so I switched to corn and worm cocktail. On the other rod the Rudd soon started to come, and in great number, for the first couple of hours I was catching at around a fish every 90 seconds.

The heavier rig was now producing nice Roach to around 6oz but changing to meat, unlike the previous week, failed to produce a single bite.  Eventually I settled on corn and as the sun sank behind the bank behind me, the Bream began to feed.

In total I brought to the bank 108 fish in an enjoyable session of around 4 hours, most of the fish coming in the first two. Alas the session failed to produce any Tench but there is always next time. Worm had proven to be prolific but it was impossible to prevent the smaller fish from showing interest so in the end settled for corn which brought me Bream to 1LB.
